About: I write about technology and tech culture. For 12 years, I was a Contributing Editor to Wired, co-creating and writing the Jargon Watch column. I am currently a contributing writer and on the Advisory Board for O'Reilly's Make magazine, and I write for Make's sister pub, Craft.

I've authored numerous books, including The Happy Mutant Handbook (co-edited with Mark and Carla of Boing Boing) and Leo Laporte’s Guide to Tivo. In 2004, I wrote the Absolute Beginner's Guide to Building Robots. I pride myself on the fact that this book has garnered me fanmail from everyone from 13-year old kids building science faire projects to university cybernetics professors using it to teach robotics and AI.

I am also "Cyborg-in-Chief" of the popular DIY/personal technology blog Street Tech and a founder member of Dorkbot DC.

Make Your Own Mousey the Junkbot
Build a zippy little light-hungry roborodent out of decommissioned analog computer mice and other recycled and cheap analog electronic parts. All skill levels welcome. For younger kids, we'll build a simpler, My Mousey the Car.

Gareth Branwyn:

I wouldn't recommend it. He's kind of an a-hole who likes to steal your girlfriend, your money, or your stash while your retina's busy trying to adjust to his limelight. The unvarnished me is far more of a straight-shooter (altho you might want to keep at least one eye on your stuff).

Tim Tate:

Is there anyway I can meet the legend by itself first?

Natalie Zee Drieu:

I'm looking forward to meeting you too! Too bad we couldn't get Amy Sedaris to come!! ;)

Gareth Branwyn:

>You're a legend I've always wanted to meet!

That was *before* the medication. I'm much better now, but far less interesting. I kid. I kid my psyche! I'll see if I can coax the legend into my carry-on luggage.

Bonnie Burton:

You're a legend I've always wanted to meet!

Gareth Branwyn:

I love when he talks about what a tremendous geek he is. He did nothing but play D&D in college, speaks fluent high-elvish, likes comic books, etc. Card-carryin'!

Tim Tate:

Have Colbert make his own, so he can bust it without guilt!

Gareth Branwyn:

Ha! He's not coming, is he? "Hide your servitors, it's Colbert!"

Tony Stubblebine:

Looking forward to learning how to build a junkbot robot. Have you figured out how to make it Colbert proof?
