About: Colleen Ludwig received her MFA in Time and Interactivity at the University of Minnesota in 2005 and her BFA in Film and Television at New York University in 1989. She works with a combination of materials and technology to create immersive environments. She has mounted several shows of this work with collaborator Jarod Charzewski, including Instinct at Consolidated Works in Seattle and Air Traffic at Zone Gallery in Kansas City. Her latest work, Trajectory, was shown in a solo show at the Front Room Gallery in Saint Paul in the spring of 2006.

Ludwig’s work often uses natural elements such as light and shadow, sound, wind, water and movement to heighten sensation in her spaces. When she uses video, it provides a tactile presence. The images are dynamic, repetitive and meditative, focused on rhythms of movement and gesture rather than specific activity. The goal is for the audience to engage on a level beyond the visual. Ludwig wants people’s bodies to be drawn into the work on an almost performative level, through enhanced awareness and sensitivity. Together, the artist and the audience create an atmosphere for contemplation and exploration. Her work with the senses aims to highlight and discuss the psyche’s constant negotiation between self and society.
